NIH team members in GAIA PHASE II: Steven Hirschfeld (NICHD), Mirjana Nesin (NIAID), Michael Padula (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia), and Richard Gorman.

The National Institutes of Health is collaborating in the GAIA project by contributing expertise in designing, evaluating, and analysing clinical studies in children and pregnant women and expertise in terminology and informatics. The team has direct participation from three institutes, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Contribution to the consortium

NIH was instrumental in strategically guiding GAIA and in developing an immunization terminology and ontology mapped to case definitions and diseases codes. NIH has contributed its services to the beneficiaries of GAIA outputs in kind and Steven Hirschfeld will continue to do so.
